* Max Height 50' (West Coast Estimate 35' Feet)
Phyllostachys nigra 'Bory' is a timber form of nigra that deserves wide recognition. It produces some of the best quality wood of any bamboo that can be grown in Canada. A common name for this bamboo is Snakeskin, because of the way that the culms are marked. Although a nigra the culms are not pure black, but instead develop spots or patches of dark color. When the culms are cut and seasoned, the green sections turn a straw color, and the spots show cloud-like shades of brown and ebony. The result is an excellent quality bamboo pole, that has coloring that looks like snakeskin. In Japan this bamboo is used in Tea Houses, for high quality, specialty finish work. This bamboo makes a great tall screen, and the exceptional quality poles, are a bonus.

It has the longest internodes of any Phyllostachys and the nodes are not very pronounced which allows for easy splitting. In a test in Alabama of dozens of bamboo’s this one was judged most productive in wood production. Rubromarginata refers to inconspicuous red bristles. This vigorous Bamboo is noted for its resistance to wind which makes it a good bamboo for exposed sights.QuantityPrice
